Book Summary

I chose Tell Me What You Did by Carter Wilson not only because of its unique concept, but also because of the personal connection it created. Carter Wilson lives in Erie, Colorado, and since I’m currently in Grand Junction, I saw this as the perfect opportunity to invite the other book club girls to come visit me when we celebrate finishing the book. It gave us a reason to turn our reading experience into something more—an event, a trip, a memory in the making.

What truly drew me into this book, though, was its creative structure. The story follows a young woman named Poe  who hosts a podcast, and throughout the book, QR codes are embedded that allow readers to actually listen to pieces of her podcast. Scanning them brings the story to life in a whole new way—blurring the line between fiction and reality. It felt interactive, immersive, and completely different from a traditional reading experience. That combination of a local author, a fresh storytelling style, and the opportunity to gather together in Colorado made this book an easy and exciting choice for our group.

Tell Me What You Did is a psychological thriller that blends mystery with an innovative, interactive twist. The story follows Poe Webb, a young woman who hosts a popular true-crime-style podcast called Tell Me What You Did. On her show, people anonymously confess their darkest secrets—crimes, regrets, and hidden truths they’ve never shared before.

Everything changes when one caller’s confession hits too close to home. Poe begins to suspect that the person on the other end of the line may be connected to a traumatic event from her own past. As she digs deeper, the line between storyteller and participant blurs, pulling her into a dangerous psychological game where truth, memory, and identity become increasingly uncertain.

To celebrate finishing Tell Me What You Did, we took our book club experience to the next level with a trip to Erie, Colorado, where we had the incredible opportunity to meet the author, Carter Wilson, in person. What started as a fun idea turned into an unforgettable experience when he graciously sat down with our group for well over an hour. He shared insights into his writing process, talked about the inspiration behind his books, and gave us a behind-the-scenes look at how his stories come to life. What stood out most was how genuine and approachable he was—he never once seemed bothered by our lively group of ten (plus a couple of extras!). In fact, we even brought along Jessica’s younger brother Alex and his friend, who had also read the book and were just as excited to be there. The entire experience felt personal, relaxed, and incredibly special, turning a great read into a meaningful memory we’ll all hold onto.
