Sherrie "slow down, stay curious"

Hi, I’m Sherrie Newman. I’m from Davenport, Iowa, and aside from the first six months of my life, I’ve called this community home. I proudly wear many hats: mom, grandmother of four, sister, niece, cousin, friend, and significant other (because “girlfriend” just feels a little strange when you’re quickly approaching 60—ha!).

I happily retired in 2023 after spending 39 years working in Human Resources with the Federal Government. That career shaped my deep belief in fairness, respect, and helping people understand their options so they can make informed decisions. I’ve always enjoyed supporting others, asking thoughtful questions, and finding practical solutions to real-life challenges.

After losing my mom to cancer in 2012, I began a wellness journey that has completely changed my life. Along the way, I’ve lost—and kept off—100 pounds and significantly improved my health. I joined an incredible wellness company with clean, impactful products and a truly supportive community, which has been one of the biggest blessings of my life. While I still have weight I want to lose, I’ve learned that slow and steady wins the race. Balance is key—especially since I love carb-loaded food and enjoy the occasional cocktail!

Family and friends mean everything to me, especially my grandchildren. Time with them is what I value most right now. Having raised a child, I understand just how fleeting time is, and my grandkids remind me to slow down, stay curious, and appreciate what truly matters. They are also a major motivation behind my health journey—I want to be present, active, and around long enough to watch them grow into fine young adults.

I love to travel and explore new places. Experiencing different cities, states, countries, and cultures brings me so much joy and keeps life interesting. When I’m not traveling, you’ll find me spending time with family and friends, reading, attending movies and theater productions, learning more about health and wellness, or enjoying some quiet time to recharge.

Our book club is one of my favorite things (and is so important to my mental well-being) because it brings together so many of my passions: friendship, reading, travel, and new adventures. It’s been wonderful watching how we’ve all evolved as we explore different genres and redefine what our book club is going to look like a few years from now. I can’t wait to see what the future holds—look out world, the BOM Squad is coming for you!
